Final countdown

Here it is, college is almost over. You know what that means? It means summer. And summer means really good hardcore shows. And time to go to those shows. I'm planning on going to most of them. So far, that's what I'll be seeing :

May 22nd : Vile Intent with Look Beyond
May 29th : Change Of Ideas with Tightrope
for sure more to be added.

Also, 2010 seems like a good year for reunions. Outspoken and Morning Again are doing reunions. FTW. And it appears that Outspoken is doing an east coast show, which I couldn't miss. So I should add to that list of shows to go ATWR fest, which is in DC, 10 fucking hours drive. While this will cost a lot of gas money, I think it's TOTALLY worth it for the line up that has been announced so far.
As much as I hate winter, this will for sure be awesome.

Lifespan

For a couple of months I've been a bass player in an all-girl hardcore band. We're not the greatest musician in the world and we have made some line up changes to get the most out of ourselves and get this band out for once. We filmed that video in order to look and hear how we sounded, so I'm kind of not supposed to put it here, but I think it's time to show the world (haha) who we are! Here is our actual line up! We're super proud of ourselves and we hope that everyone will like it! It's our second song, we still got some stuff to perfect but overall this is how it goes!

Spring break.

Yeah, that's right, it's my spring break! Between my old and new jobs, I'll post my review of Righteous Jams (no, I haven't forgotten)! So make sure to look after that.

I'll resume our Toronto week end cause I haven't done it yet.
Half way through the trip, we learned that Mindset wouldn't play, which was a big bummer for everyone in the car. So the mood was a little on the downside, we get to Toronto finally, and we are looking for the pizza place, we can't find any parking spot and Dany is getting stressed out because his show is 15 minutes away and he can't reach anyone in his band. We go to the venue and some old man screams at Dany, who doesn't understand A THING, calling him a fratboy with his varsity jacket, a bitch who can't get into punk rock at his age, bla bla bla. Drama's going on, we finally go to the pizza place and Dany finally reaches someone, we get to the venue again, no one is there, so we fold the inserts for the tapes.

The show starts with The Proof, who were awesome, you should check it out! After that, Look Beyond, weirdest performance ever seen from them, then after 20 minutes of Tony setting up his new wireless thing, people were leaving and almost booing them, Progression played, and they were better than LB. A friend and me leave, we go swimming at the pool, walk a little downtown Toronto, and when we step in the room, Dany calls me to come get his amp 'cause of drama that happened. We then learned that No Tolerance didn't play either.

After a good night of sleep, we go to Wholefoods groceries, grab some food and head to Sadie's dinner, where we got an awesome vegetarian breakfast before a long ride back home.

There were a couple of photos going on but I can't find any...will post one up when I do.

TIME&PRESSURE

Okay that record is so good. Even better than the first one, which I thought is one of the best nowadays. The opening track, Create/Control couldn't be better, with that drum roll in the beggining. Wow. I don't know what to say other than that. I'm more than happy to have ordered it. I am even more bummed that they haven't played in Toronto finally. (I haven't talked about it yet, but yeah, they didn't play).

Favorite track : Create/Control.

Picture : Cover of the tour photo book Chris Bavaria (from the band) made, it is awesome!

TORONTO.

Be ready to read about it, I already feel that it's going to be awesome.
I will for sure be fueling on coffee, for a 6 hours car ride.
A stop at Whole foods market, Pizzarello for veggie pizzas and Sadie's for veggie breakfast.
Pool in the hotel, party with Look Beyond, Progression and Mindset.
Awesome week end, but there will be snow. fuck.

FUCK.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO. It's snowing again! I was so happy when I could wear my Vans shoes.

I really hope it will melt before going to Toronto.

No Tolerance

I was thinking about what I should write in my blog when the purpose of it just got back to me. Discovering new bands, new albums. Which, in 5 posts, I haven't done yet. So this is the second week I'm doing this and have not even discovered one yet, so I'm doing it right now. I would ask for some suggestions but since my blog is rather new, there aren't tons of readers, even less people who comment, so I'll just pick one myself and wait for suggestions for weeks to come.

Here's what I'm doing right now, while I'm writing this. I'm looking through the React! board for some band I don't know that might interest me. Finally, I decided that I'd look into bands that are going to be in Toronto that I don't know. So 'No Tolerance' is my first attempt of discovery!

I listened to their '08 demo, it is hard as fuck! Great riffs and awesome "in your face" songs that makes you want to mosh in your living room (yep, even me, but I didn't). Definitly a good band and I'm looking forward to see them in less then 2 weeks! Fave song on the demo : Boston Ex.
If you guys have any more infos on them, if they have another demo out, an EP or whatever they should have out let me know! ('cause I'm not so sure I got their myspace page right)

Next band I'm checking out : Righteous Jams.

This is an attempt of writing something interresting. It probably isn't but I'll work on things and make a better review, listen to the band a little more than I've done today, and many more things I'm forgetting. I'm trying to find time with school, work and jams ya know.

Finally

There it is. We finally got it! The hardcore mobile.
Here's my question : what sticker should we put on this guy?

Toronto

At the end of the month, both Look Beyond and Progression, Montreal's best straight edge bands, are going to play in Toronto with MINDSET! There were no question I would miss that so I'm going to drive some friends and my BF to party and mosh. Fuck, I can't wait!

Plus, some of the pictures I took for Look Beyond's first show with Guns Up!

W'sup.

You know what? I think that this blog shouldn't be only about my music discovering process, I'll post more personnal things too (well not too personnal, don't worry). So be ready to read stories about my life, hope you're excited (haha).

Here are the most awesome cats on earth.

Shelter

Anyone that knows me a little can tell you that one of my favorite bands is Shelter. I couldn't do this blog without them having a place of choice in it.

My relationship with Shelter has been going for quite a while now. I really can't tell you which album is my favorite because it has changed since I've listened to them the first time. The first album I listened to was Beyond Planet Earth and for me it was the greatest album of all time. I couldn't stop listening to it, I was in love with 'I Know So Little'. But then I started to check out the other albums, it then was obvious Beyond Planet Earth wasn't Shelter's peak (I'm not considering the chronology here). I then discovered Mantra, with Message of the Bhagavat, We Can Work It Out (that just got me out of winter blues at that time), and of course Here We Go, which lyrics are so true.

Time changed for me and Mantra was my shelter (haha, I know). Not too long after (and up to now), I've had an attachment to Eternal. I am no krishna devotee. And for being the album I've listened to most, I know that the lyrics are a lot about krishna, but the lyrics are just so inspiring to me, especially the song Eternal. I can relate to them in some other way than in the religious way. What about Built to Resist! It gives me power when I need it the most. I really can't explain, but its that one album that gives me shivers and that just go through the years so well.

During spring and summer, I listened a lot to When 20 Summers Pass, and it can only make you smile on all those shitty rainy days. It has a great almost pop-punk sound that makes it a great road trip album, a summer album, a happy album. The songs are catchy, but I feel that its not the album that fully represents Shelter. But you know what, which album really does? They are all different and have their own personnality, their own sound and their own karma. I think that this difference between all their albums is what makes Shelter so awesome.

But I feel that I need to know more, not to restrain myself only to Eternal. So, as I'm writing this, I am currently listening to The Purpose, The Passion, of which the song True North makes a good start, really. I can't tell you right now if this will get to me like Eternal did, if it will be as awesome music and lyric wise, but I sure won't close my mind to all the other albums.

I want that life!

Also posted on Chris' blog Too Tired To Drive Home, great blog, it surely has more content than mine.

New blog

'My chance to live' will be the place where I discover music and talk about it. So each and every week I'll listen to an entire album that I've found or been suggested, so I really am opened to any suggestions, any music type.

I'm pretty excited about starting this blog, I think it will be a cool thing to do and a good way to expend my musical view! Hopefully I'll have a journalist career after all my school years and this is definitly something that will help me, not that it is any school project or anything. So yeah, enjoy!

Hello, this is me.
